- Polymer clay. You don't need to get a lot of clay to start out with. I recommend getting the basic colors which are the colors of the rainbow. White and black (always get extra of these two) silver, gold, and pearl. Pearl and silver clay is good for mixing it with other color to make metallic clay.
- A good working space. This could be a fold out table or even your kitchen table. If you wanna use your kitchen table do not work directly on it for it may damage the table. You can cover the spot your gonna work on with wax paper, glass, or tile.
- An oven. It's fine if you use your regular oven since polymer clay is non-toxic. You can later switch to a toaster oven just for polymer clay if you bake a lot.
- A baking tray. You can bake on glass, tile, or a regular baking tray (if you use a baking tray for clay you can no longer use it for food). Cover your tray with wax paper to prevent it from sticking.
- A roller. Acrylic rollers, brayers and pasta machines for clay, are the best but could be expensive a good replacement are knitting needles, glass cups, pencils, empty glass bottles, or a small plastic kitchen roller (once used for clay it can no longer be used for food) . Plastic is not recommended to use since it may stick or react with the clay.
- craft knife or blade. Any craft knife or blade is ok just make sure it has a cap to prevent any cuts.
- (optional) wire or polymer clay glue (scupley bake&bond). Its good to have something to stick small pieces or delicate pieces. Wire can be cut with scissors. Sculpey bake&bond is a glue for polymer clay it can be used on raw and cured (baked) clay
